The Book of Hints and Wrinkles Project
Here’s an oddity.
The Book of Hints and Wrinkles is a book that tells you how to live your life and make a home from a long time ago. The unnamed author covers such pressing topics as ‘Getting the home together’, ‘Kitchen management and catering’ and ‘The problem of our pets’. The book is undated but 1939 appears in the text and the Second World War doesn’t so I’m guessing this dates from 1939. It was published by Odhams Press Limited. I haven’t read it all yet but the bits that I have seen are all charmingly old and dated so I thought, for a project, I’d share some choice extracts with you. You can open the book at almost any page and be rewarded with a valuable insight into another age and another world. By the way, I didn’t get this at the Hospice Bookshop; I got this at our local car boot sale (Nana Grundy took me one Sunday). It is, without a doubt, the best 10p I have ever spent. Words of wisdom from a bygone age can be found behind each of the title cards… |
